Ugly Recruiting Terms of Service

Last Updated: December 17, 2025

Welcome to Ugly Recruiting ("Ugly Recruiting," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website, surveys, comment features, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who We Are

Ugly Recruiting is a platform where users can share experiences about hiring and interview processes. We provide a space for discussion and reporting. We are not a legal service, a background check provider, and we do not guarantee the accuracy of user-submitted content.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent you have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

3. Account, Access, and Security

You may be able to use the Service without creating an account. If accounts are offered, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.

4. User Content and License

"User Content" means any text, ratings, survey responses, comments, attachments, or other material you submit. You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant Ugly Recruiting a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting and safety), publish, display, and distribute your User Content for the purpose of operating, improving, and promoting the Service.

5. Content Rules (Read Carefully)

Ugly Recruiting aims to support honest reporting while protecting people from harm. You agree that you will not submit User Content that violates these rules.

5.1 What You May Share

  • Your interview timeline, formats, and process details (for example, recruiter screen, panel, take-home assignment).
  • Role-level details (for example, “frontend engineer,” “onsite,” “contract,” “senior”).
  • General compensation ranges if they are already public or you are legally allowed to share them.
  • Your subjective experience and opinions, if expressed responsibly and without targeting private individuals.
  • Process issues (for example, excessive rounds, irrelevant questions, inconsistent interviewer preparedness).

5.2 What You May NOT Share (Especially in the final comment box)

The final comment box at the end of the survey is the highest-risk area for harm. Do not use it to post personal, identifying, confidential, or legally restricted information.

  • No personal identifying information (PII) or doxxing: Do not post real names of interviewers, recruiters, candidates, or employees. Do not post phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, social handles, license plates, or any other identifying details.
  • No confidential or proprietary information: Do not post non-public documents or company secrets, including screenshots of internal systems, offer letters if prohibited by contract, private emails, NDAs, private Slack messages, internal interview question banks, or trade secrets.
  • No health, financial account, or sensitive personal data: Do not post medical information about anyone, government IDs, bank details, or anything that could enable fraud.
  • No harassment, threats, or hate: Do not post content that harasses, bullies, threatens, degrades, or targets people based on protected characteristics.
  • No incitement or instructions for wrongdoing: Do not use the Service to plan or encourage illegal activity, intimidation, or retaliation.
  • No impersonation: Do not claim to be someone else, or claim insider status you do not have.
  • No defamation or knowingly false statements: Do not present false claims as fact. If you are uncertain, phrase it as your experience or opinion.
  • No content that violates law or third-party rights: Do not post copyrighted material you do not have rights to, or content that violates privacy rights.

5.3 Safer Ways to Write Comments

  • Use roles instead of names (for example, “the recruiter,” “the hiring manager,” “one interviewer”).
  • Avoid exact dates if they identify people. Use general timeframes (for example, “mid-2025”).
  • Describe behaviors and process outcomes, not private details about individuals.
  • If quoting communications, paraphrase rather than posting screenshots or verbatim emails.

6. Moderation and Enforcement

We may review, filter, remove, redact, or refuse to publish User Content at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including enforcing these Terms or protecting users and third parties. We may also suspend or ban users who violate these Terms.

7. Reporting Content

If you believe content violates these Terms or your rights, contact us using the method listed in the “Contact Us” section. Please include enough detail for us to investigate (for example, a link, screenshot, or description).

8. No Professional Advice

Content on the Service is provided for informational purposes only. It is not legal, HR, career, or professional advice. You should consult qualified professionals for guidance.

9. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party sites. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, policies, or practices.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, UGLY RECRUITING WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Ugly Recruiting from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your User Content or your violation of these Terms.

13. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the state or country where Ugly Recruiting is operated, without regard to conflict of laws principles.
